Information on Prepaid Cell Phones
What is the difference between a regular cell phone plan and prepaid cell phones? Though they are very similar, they do have differences. One difference is where you purchase the prepaid cell phones versus other cell phones. Most of the time you purchase cell phones at the actual cell phone company store. However, prepaid cell phones may be purchased at stores such as Radio Shack and Wal-Mart. Often, Prepaid cell phones can be cheaper and they can be easier to budget and not spend too much money on.
How do they work? While regular cell phones work by having set plans for each month, prepaid cell phones are more like phone cards. Instead of getting billed each month, you buy a card with however many minutes you would like to use on it. Is that better? In some ways it is good because you will not end up with any surprising cell phone bills. Since you will have already paid ahead of time then your cell phone bill is already taken care of. However, if you use up all of your minutes by the end of the month, you cannot use your phone at all until you go in and purchase some more. For emergencies that would not be a good thing. However, 911 calls are always free, for true 'emergencies'.
How else are prepaid cell phones different? They are also different in that you don?t have much choice over what cell phone you can have. When you go to a cell phone company, you are given a whole bunch of choices of phones. You also have a very wide range of plans that you can pick and choose and even blend. It all depends on what you need. With prepaid cell phones, you do not have much choice in phones. You will tend to be offered one or two basic cell phones which may not have features such as cameras and internet access, which so many of us love, these days. You also do not have much choice with your plan. Yes, there are a lot of different prepaid cell phone plans, but you cannot mix and match them like you can with a regular cell phone.
So which type of cell phone is better? It is hard to say. It really depends on you and what you need your cell phone for. Prepaid cell phones are great if all you want is a phone that you do not use too often. Prepaid cell phones are usually very popular with elderly people. Why is that? Most elderly people do not use a cell phone as often as others do. Part of the reason is because many people use their cell phone for work. That is not to say prepaid cell phones aren?t good for anyone, because they are. These phones are great if you are not an avid cell phone user. Regular cell phones are better for work use. They are also better if you use text messaging and other cell phone extras.
Which one is cheaper? That also depends on you and what you use your cell phone for. Prepaid cell phones are paid for up front so you know how much you will spend. Regular cell phones do have an average fee that is based on your plan, but the bill does fluctuate from time to time. With regular cell phones you also have to keep in mind that all plans are different from other plans. Prepaid cell phones are better if you are on a strict budget as you can know up front what you will need to pay out and can budget accordingly.
